Bay of Islands Warbirds Day - CANCELLED

Warbirds Day Cancelled

December 22, 2025

Unfortunately, Kerikeri's Warbirds Day will not be going ahead as planned, as further assessment showed that the expected level of interest would place excessive pressure on airport facilities, vehicle and pedestrian movement, and normal airport operations; from a health and safety and operational perspective, we’re not comfortable proceeding under those conditions, and while this wasn’t an easy decision, safety must come first. We thank everyone for their interest and understanding and will share updates if and when future events are planned. The Whangarei and Dargaville days are going ahead as planned.

ZK-RJN Water Landing

November 25, 2025

Yesterday ZK-RJN made a water landing in the Bay of Islands after smoke filled the cockpit. Massive praise to club member Paul, who only recently got his PPL, for handling an incredibly tough situation with absolute calm and professionalism. Thanks to his quick thinking, he and his passenger are safe. The aircraft will now be hopefully recovered from the sea floor, but the most important thing is that Paul walked away. Thanks to everyone involved in their quick recovery from the water.

Unfortunately this means we no longer have a GA aircraft available for PPL training. We will update this page with any further developments.

We regret to report that ZK-RJN suffered a hard landing and has suffered damage to the prop and nose wheel. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident. We're hoping to see RJN back in service around September.
